Aus Federal Election 07

  • The Newspoll to be published in tomorrow's The Australian newspaper shows the Federal Government has made 8 per cent on Labor since the last poll, a fortnight ago.

It shows Labor would still receive 55 per cent of the vote and the Coalition 45 after preferences.

While the gap has narrowed, it would still mean a resounding victory for Labor.

Some Labor MPs had predicted this poll would be closer than the one taken last fortnight.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. THEY CANNOT GAIN. GAINING BAD.
  • It's all good, Labor still have ten up on them after preferences, that's still a win.

    They just can't gain anymore.

AND FOR CHRISTS SAKE WOULD THE SONOFABITCH JUST SET A FREAKING DATE FOR THE ELECTION ALREADY?! IT'S ALMOST OCTOBER!
  • ...i'm not old enough to vote... can't say i like howard or rudd... or costello for that matter... need some 'cooler' politicians... [that's the first time i've heard cool and politian in the same sentence...]... except i'd probably vote for howard because rudd seems like a bit of a screwdriver (there used to be a different word there, but i decided to change it... sounds better this way anyway...)... laugh.gif
  • Bump!

I'm sure everyone knows this anyway, but the election is going to be held on November 24. Therefore Howard has as much time to cling onto power as possible rolleyes.gif

Earlier in this thread I recall saying that I wasn't too sure who I would rather, between Howard and Rudd. Well, I am now aware that if if Howard and his party, get re-elected I will be seriously pissed.
It annoys me that people are so indifferent towards all the garbage he's put us through. Not only has he lied to the Australian public and even his party but the only reason, I can see, that he wants to win this election is to maintain power. If he had any actions or ideals to implement he would have done them in the 11 years he's been PM.
Yet, people still vote for him because he's "Slippery John" and "Politicians lie" ugh! "That's just the way it is" is not an excuse for his behaviour. You could say he has every right to think we're morons because for some reason people keep voting him back in!

Oh and I cannot understand the "Rudd's a wimp, dork, loser etc etc" argument. C'mon, have you ever looked at the man currently running our country?

    Niiiiice.
We need a change. Christ, do we need a change.
You know, I was thinking the other day, most Aus. PM's have had something going for them that they are now remembered by. For example, Whitlam did some great things to improve the plight of Aborigines during his time. But what does Howard have? What will people remember him for in twenty, thirty years time? That he took us to a completely pointless and drawn out war? That he was responsible for completely screwing up our rights as employees? (which is sort of a huge deal to me because I'm only *starting* to get into the workplace with a proper career)

Sorry to be so biased. I'll balance it out by laughing at the Chasers talking about Rudd's twerpy smile and Mandarin. Hahaha. I love what Julian said to him in Mandarin. Hilarious!
But the thing that freaks me out is that while Rudd is promising all these great things, has he ever explicitly stated exactly how he's going to put these actions into motion? He strikes me as having no plan, no policy at all to implement these things.
  • it will be really weird if rudd gets elected... i've only ever known one prime minister... when did howard get elected? 1996? ... i was only 3... maybe, it's time for a change...

i know i said like 2 posts up i want howard to win/get elected... but now i don't know... i don't want rudd to win/get elected either... maybe some random??
  • *bump*

    Rudd won!

    Party time, yes?

    NO! NO PARTY TIME!

...i wanted johnny to win... sad.gif

    ...i don't like rudd... mad.gif
  • I don't like either but I still think a party is in order. You have to admit, it's refreshing at least?

Hey, where's God got to? I miss her. She would have been excited by this news!
  • ...i don't know if refreshing is the right word... laugh.gif

..i don't mind the switch in party's (i suppose it might be refreshing...) mainly just the switch in leader's... john howard seems really nice and stuff... but rudd just seems to like himself too much... i'm sure i'll get used to him, and everything will be okay... but it's weird, because i've only really ever known of one prime minister... and now i have to renew my facts... such hard work... laugh.gif

...and as for the issue of god... i have no idea...
  • PARTY TIME! WOOOO!
    Hahahaha.
Well, I for one am happy about the change.
It's interesting that once Howard lost, everyone (around me and my family at least) started going on about how great he was and blah blah blah and I'm like "why does no one remember that he dragged us into a POINTLESS WAR that had NOTHING TO DO WITH US?!"
With that said, I'm sure Rudd will have plenty of time to make stupid decisions like that in the upcoming years.
  • yeah, it doesn't really matter who is prime minister, they're still gonna make stupid decisions... but that's the beauty of democracy... you CAN get rid of them.... YAY! laugh.gif
  • Vote Damian?

(Are they even still down there? I don't think so, but they were for a damn long while, or at least there seemed to be a lot of hubub about it...)

Aww, I wish they were still down here. They were here in early August sad.gif

*whispers* And they need to come back very soon!!
  • I predict the Liberals will crash and burn in this election. That Dion guy cant speak proper english, and looks like he doesnt have the testicular fortitude to lead the nation.
