I didnt go to my first show til I was 17 either. Infact i was VERY nearly 18. It was Ok go. awwww haha

same here, my first gig was the darkness+ash

then from then i went mad and have been to about 20 now i think
  • 1. I'm multilingual in Spanish & French, as well as a few phrases in German, Japanese and Swedish
    2. The OK Go/MCS gig in September will be my first
    3. Despite 2, I'll be turning 17 in a few days. My parents are pretty overprotective.
    4. I have unusually long fingers (my middle finger is 9.5cm)
    5. I'm taking an IBD (International Baccalureat Diploma, like advanced A-levels) from tomorrow whcih involves French, English, Physchology, Spanish, Biology and Maths...and I'm worried
    6. I'm pretty artistic, but due to the trouble I had with my teacher during the past 2 years, I've lost my love of painting... so I'm trying to get back into it
    7. I really dislike Mark of Feeder, dor no good reason other than in my mind he seems to be trying to make Feeder better than they were with Jon (Lee, drummer who committed suicide in 02)
    8. I generally shock people when I tell them my weight. I'm heavier than I look.
    9. I learnt the A Million Ways the wrong way the first time around.. I did it in mirror image.
    10. I have no idea what career I want to go into after I leave school/uni.

Um, I've been to a about a hundred. Hahaha. That, my friend, is gig mad.

(especially considering I've been to very few in 06)
  • 1. I'm not really God. Shocking. I know.

    2. I currently live on the East Coast of Australia, but I spent a quarter of my life living in Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia.

    3. I'm an 8th Generation Australian. My fathers side are Scottish, my mothers English/Irish. Most people I know are only 2nd or 3rd generation Australian and have "mother countries" to go back too, but I feel being 8th makes me too disconnected from my ancestral countries and therefore I feel boring.

    4. I have an unhealthy obsession with DVD Box Sets. My collection is approximately worth $1000 AU and there's at least $2000 worth more DVDs that I want. My favourite collection of DVD Box Sets is my entire collection of Stargate Sg-1 DVDs.

    5. I apparently suffer from "Father Figure Syndrome". This means that I have the hots for men old enough to be my father. This is apparently because I lacked a father figure in my childhood, hence the name "Father Figure Syndrome".

    6. I have spiral ringlets. They drive me crazy. It takes me 2 hours to straighten my hair, on a good day.

    7. I'm an accomplished pianist. I started playing when I was 4. I'm qualified to teach piano and theory. My favourite composer is Tchaikovsky. Favourite modern day composer is Christopher Norton. Not that you'd know who he is.

OK and we'll save the last three for later 'cause I'm too lazy to think of more 'CAUSE STEVE IRWIN IS DEAD.
  • Are these just supposed to be ten general things about you? I'm too lazy to figure it out.

    1) I am older than most of you boardies.... but you probably already knew that.
    2) I was a teacher to teenage girls who had babies for a few years before switching to my current career.
    3) I have two master's degrees, one in community health and one in nursing, making me a Clinical Nurse Specialist. I work in endocrinology part time and do heart failure research part time. Do I sound like a nerd??
    4) I really long to be a writer.
    5) I have written my first novel but am still trying to find an agent. I wrote it while I was supposed to be studying for my board exams, but I still managed to pass, hence my ability to write prescriptions...but no, I can't write for the good drugs smile.gif
    6) I am married, for many, many moons.
    7) I have two dogs, one of whose name is Penelope. That's where the screen name came from. They are both chihuhuas, and one is three-legged.
    8) I wish I lived in NYC, it's my absolute favorite place on earth and I visit there pretty much yearly.
    9) I type really, really fast. Like 90-100 wpm. A valuable skill I learned in the 8th grade.
    10) My hub is a musician. My other dream: his band opening for OK GO. HA!!!! check 'em out: www.myspace.com/managerschoice

You haven't revealed how old, though. I'm breaking some sort of woman-woman rule here, but will we learn how old? smile.gif

I'm jealous. I am writing my first but nowhere near finished.

  • Why am I too dumb to figure out how to multiple quote???
    So..in response to Sherib...

Age: All in good time smile.gif

About the degrees? Really, it was just a well laid out plan to avoid working full time! Plus it took me a while to figure out what I really wanted to do. I still have no idea.

What's your novel about? It is a great feeling to finish, but then the real work begins (that is, if you want it to get published).

My hub is the singer on all three but Don't Blink Don't Stare. He also writes most of their stuff. I recently dragged Karleigh to a show when she was in town. I'm always trolling for fans...ha!

    lol
See the "Quote" box in the lower right of everyone's posts? When you see something you wanna quote, hit that. You can do it as many times as you want (theoretically--I've never tried to quote, say, 500 posts). Then hit the "Add reply" button at the bottom of the page. Don't hit the "Reply" that's in someone's post after you've already hit "Quote" in others. I believe that cancels out the other quotes. So. "Quote," then "Add reply."

    Still quite impressive.

I don't want to say. Yeah, I'm a tool, opening the can and slamming it shut. Lurve story smile.gif What's yours about?
You're scaring me about the publishing stuff. I do want to get it published. Dreaming of writing for a living like you too. I fear I may prove too lazy sad.gif
Wait, I do write for a living! laugh.gif Just not really creatively.

Ah, I'm sure it wasn't dragging.
Trolling ... I would be too! You're just being a good promoter smile.gif
  • Mine is based loosely on my work with the teen moms...so it is a "slice of life" about six different girls I worked with...loosely connected by the teacher (who is not really based on me)....it is definitely a book for those of the female persuasion, though I did get my hub to read it.

What do you do for a living? As far as publishing goes, there's just a lot of writers out there (kind of like bands). I think it is a combination of luck and skill.

Yeah, good promoter, I like that.
  • 1. I talk to myself. I pretend I'm on my own reality show and explain what I'm doing, or I pretend I'm being interviewed.
    2. I have been isolated in my dorm room all weekend, and I don't mind at all, except for eating too much Ben and Jerry's.
    3. I'm a sleepaholic. I can seriously force myself to sleep when I'm bored. However, I'm an insomniac. I can't sleep when I need to.
    4. My mom is the coolest mom ever because she doesn't try to be cool. She does what she likes while still being a mom, not a friend. Imagine this: going to at Panic!/OK Go show, having your mom show up in her rubber ducky nurse scrubs, and then having to be lifted out of the mosh pit together by security.
    5. I'm a closet Marilyn Manson fan.
    6. My best friends are people who I'm not in contact with everyday, like over the internet, because they only know me when I want to talk, not when I'm not in the mood.
    7. If given the opportunity, I could probably go a really long time without showering. However, I love to be clean, I just don't like cleaning.
    8. I judge people too much.
    9. I love food. If given the choice of being a vegan and living a long time, and eating anything I want but not living as long, I'd choose the latter. I want to enjoy my life.
    10. My sister is the most beautiful thing in the world to me.
  • See, I still screwed up the quotes. Sigh.
    I'm really not an idiot.
  • 1. this is the second time in five minutes i've tried posting something because the first time i couldn't think of ten things i wanted to say.
    2. my name is angie, aggie is just a strange nickname i got.
    3. i'm a harry potter fan.
    4. i hate my eyebrows but i'm scared of messing with them too much for fear of making them even worse.
    5. i'm sort of quiet, and i hate feeling like i'm forcing myself to talk. but then i feel better once i actually do open up and meet people.
    6. despite trying to appreciate it, i really don't like poetry. and i certainly can't write it.
    7. i've taken dance since i was 3, but i'm starting not to like it anymore, and i'd kind of like to quit. which is complicated because i teach now as well...
    8. people always think that my little sister is older than me.
    9. i am a terrible procrastinator.
    10. i hate talking on the phone.

I hope I'm lucky and skillful enough. Good luck to you! I admire anybody who can finish a novel, publish or no.
What I do: I write summaries (one-sentence annotations) of books & A/V for library cataloging records. My company sells books and audiovisual stuff to school libraries. I work in the cataloging dept. w/a bunch of librarians, writing about forty annotations a day. You know when you look up a book at the library on the 'puter or the card catalog and there's a summary saying what the book's about? I write those. Voila.
You're a nurse, correct? I respect you a *lot* for that. Kudos.

Ugh, same here!! My friends think it's so weird. I'm really dreading the day I'm at a party and some guy asks for my number. It's going to be sooo uncomfortable, especially with someone you barely know.

Cool job. I'm a nurse..but not the kind in the hospital like most people think of...I'm like a specialized nurse practitioner, so I see my own patients in a clinic setting and I take care of people with chronic diseases. That's why I had to go to grad school, so I can write my own prescriptions, order my own tests, do the interpret, yadda yadda yadda. It's fun, but stressful, too. Most of my patients are OLD, but they love me! I'm always getting hugs and getting hit on by the old men (not in a creepy way!).

The thing about writing the novel...just keep at it. Write a little bit every day (though I rarely do!). That's what everyone tells me. I was just inspired to finish mine so I was able to crank it out in big chunks.

*sigh*... I really wanna be a writer when I grow up. my teacher thinks I'm good enough for it, but I dunno how I'll get anything done. I'll try that, now. =P
