  • I met Kermit the Frog today!

I went to this fantastic exhibit called "Jim Henson's Fantastic World" at the Mississippi Museum of Art. It's a traveling exhitbition, if it comes to your town, I suggest you go. I had to go, seeing as Jim Henson is a Mississippi native and I wanted to support a native son. I did not expect to see actual muppets on display! I saw Kermit (the one used in the Muppet Show in the 1970s), Rolf the Dog, the Mahna-Ma-Na muppets, Fraggles, Burt and Ernie and rubber duckie, and a bunch of Lion puppets used for "In Between the Lions" (which is filmed here in Jackson right across from where I work), as well as some other early muppet creations. The exhibit spans a little bit of all of Jim Henson's work from his early days as an aritst and creating experimental short films and puppet commercials, to the muppet and seasame street days, right up to the end.

    Kermit!!!

Then I enjoyed Chinese food at my fav Asian buffet. The girl working there saw my Jim Henson admission sticker and asked who he was. She could barely speak English. The guy working with her tried to translate "puppet" into Chinese while acting it out with his arms. Hilarity ensued.

That's awesome, Tempe! I would love to see that exhibit but I checked the tour itinerary & it's already been to Florida. sad.gif My childhood revolved around the Muppets (seriously). And here's a depressing thought: I'm probably the only boardie who was actually alive when the Muppet Show was originally on TV (& can remember it, too)!

Not true, I remember watching The Muppet Show as a child! My husband says that The Muppet Movie defined his childhood. I'm more of a Muppets Take Manhattan kind of girl, but that's a reconcilable difference. wink.gif Actually, Adam does a KILLER Kermit the Frog impression. Hmm, maybe I should just put video of him doing it on YouTube.

Here is a good comic, related to our discussion.

  • Yes, yes, I agree with Rachel. Fear not, snack cakes. I've been a fan forever, hence squealing and acting scaring in front of clueless 4 year olds when I encounter frog puppet. I've always wanted to catch that baseball diamond (Great Muppet Caper is my fav). Animal and Miss Piggy are awsome!

Yesterday was the anniversary of when I first ever saw Ok Go. Which means my anniversary of becoming a boarding is also on it's way.

I just figured out that mine's actually April 17th, which means I HAVE to go to the Chicago show, because it'll be the seven year anniversary of my first ever show.

Oooh, our anniversaries are 9 days apart! We both saw them on the same tour. Where did you see them?

Thanks for making me feel better guys!
I'm with Adam on this one. The Muppet Movie is still one of my favorites. I listened to that soundtrack my entire childhood (on vinyl, long before the days of CD's) and can still sing every word.
Do you guys remember when Jim Henson died? I was so heartbroken; it was like Kermit himself had died. So glad that the Muppets lived on. Vive le Muppets!

I saw them at the Blue Note in Columbia, Missouri! They're playing there again this tour for the first time since then (though they've played smaller venues in Columbia), and I'm going to that too, I'm pretty excited.
That was a good tour, that was the only time I saw them back in their t-shirt days.

My Grandma died when I was 4, and one of my few memories of her involves the fact that she had HBO (we didn't) so whenever we were at her house I got to watch Fraggle Rock. We loved Uncle Traveling Max.
  • I saw these guys on Friday.
