  • Wow, strange things happen everywhere. Is your town rather bleak? Or a strip mall wasteland (sorry just had to sneak an Ok Go reference in). Don't go druggie on us now. Actually, you're town sounds like it would make for an interesting movie about the darkness of suburbia.

The weather here is great right now, but soon it will be come hot again *shuddering at the thought*

my little new england town isn't very quaint, or New England-ish.
It's just VERY suburban. All the kids( excepting my friends and I) smoke pot because there's nothing better to do, then go out and get drunk on the weekends. The only good thing is we're in too poor a section of suburbia to have heavier drug problems.

I totally understand. My town is in Fairfield County and, therefore, fairly affluent. So, the parents are rarely home and really go into states of denial once their kids reach middle school. So, cocaine, pot, and drinking are all pretty rampant here.
  • That's all very depressing. I live in the suburbs, and I drink sometimes, but not very often. I've never smoked anything because it would screw my voice up, and that's my living, so... well, about a third of my school smokes cigarettes that I know of, but only maybe a seventh of our school's population smokes pot, but almost everyone has "experimented." A ton of people drink. I'm not sure why. Probably because they're all expected to get straight A's so they can get into Stanford and UCLA. Damn Asian parents! I'm a minority. I'm not kidding either. It's like New China or something. I sound really racist, but they are. Some of them refuse to associate with the white and hispanic students on campus. It's recockulous!

Ooo, a musician. What do you sing? Is it opera, classical music, or rock and roll?

The whole suburban drugs thing is a problem out here, too, and it's really an issue in some of the 'burbs outside of Boston where my roomie grew up. People always associate drug problems with the inner city, but they forget that a large chunk of the problem comes from rich, bored, suburban white kids who have the dollars to buy the drugs and alcohol.

I don't do pot, 'cause I think it's just dumb, but I do drink and do very rarely smoke. I'm worried about going abroad, though- EVERYONE in France smokes, and I don't want to get hooked. mad.gif

You sound just like me. I drink and I smoke when I drink. When I'm not drinking, smoking seems disgusting. It's actually not totally true that everyone in France smokes. Having been there, I can tell you that they don't smoke in the same way we do, they do it tastefully and respectfully. Instead of smoking in a restaurant or in someone's face, they do it casually when they're outside and not near people. And they don't seem to smoke indoors at all. It's kind of odd, I was expecting a lot more smoking being done there, but it's just not true. I didn't smoke once while I was there. Now Spain on the other hand....

Yeah, I'm pretty much the same way re: drinking and smoking.

Hmmm. Well, that's nice to know about the French. smile.gif How long were you over there?
  • No smoking and drinking kiddies! What did McGruff and D.A.R.E. teach you guys? Do you remember???!

Not too long, about a week, but my sister was there for like 3 months and she agreed with me on the smoking thing. However, I have been all over Europe, so if you're planning to travel a lot while you're there, I recommend you do.

What did you think of England? I want to make a pilgrimage to Liverpool to see the birthplace of my boys...the lads...the Beatles!

Never been to the UK, but I'll be living there for a year when I'm a junior.

bleak? yes. except for the lake, that's really pretty and we have gorgeous sunsets.
I don't think we count as a strip mall wasteland seeing as we dont' have any malls. strip malls are different, though, so I suppose we could be, but the only good stores downtown sell food. or they're really cool little craft stores. plus a comic book store. and we don't really have strip malls the same way the towns around us have them.
    I'm not a druggie, I swear.

uh-huh. the suburbs of boston = where I live. even though I don't smoke or drink or anything, I know how to get ahold of any drug I could ever want, in about a week.
I know two kids who live in the town above mine who've been through detox. They're really nice, too. It doesn't bother me if kids I know smoke pot/drink unless it's around me too much.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
DARE didn't teach me anything. It's pointless to tell kids "don't do drugs" because that makes the drugs forbidden and therefore exciting.
I don't do drugs or smoke or even drink because I have bad reactions to a "drug" as mild as caffeine and I hate the idea of inhaling smoke because dying of smoke inhalation and fire is one of my bigger fears. plus I dont like the smell of alcohol.
I was talking with kids from other towns and they said that a lot of times kids do drugs to show off, like "I have enough money to afford this much cocaine a day" type of deal. plus the parents are away in business meetings and trips and stuff most of the time. It's screwed up.
  • so, uh, back to the weather.

I don't think I could survive if it didn't rain for 100 days. I love rain.
  • All of you should read this book. It speaks the truth.

Am I the only one that's surprised that someone finished a book on pot?

No. I'm single-handedly attempting to meet every single Boardie. Well, at least those who post here regularly. smile.gif It'll be great.

Speaking of which, while sittinng in lecture today, I was randomly thinking what it would be like to get all the regular boardies in a room together. What would each personality be like. What kind of hysteria would we cause. lol, I was just bored
