haha, you have no idea how insane i almost went when i read that first sentence laugh.gif
  • sigh yeah...
    john mayer.. what a heartbreaker.

okay guys i have this list of music to check out, so before i get to it, give me your insight!
    -minus the bear
    -regina spektor
    -air
    -lcd soundsystem
    -the feeling
    -mars volta
-metric (damian always says he listens to them)
    -bright eyes
basically i've heard of all these ppl here and there, but i'm curious as to what type of sound they have and of course if they're good or not!

    thanks everyone!
  • I'll help you out with common music snob opinions:

-minus the bear: Good, but the rest of the band is noticeably better than the lead singer.

-regina spektor: Great. (SuperSnobs, however, will describe her as "Mom rock")

-air: Decent European electronica. (Their song 'Sexy Boy' was in 10 Things I Hate About You, so I like them by default.)

    -lcd soundsystem - Pretty good.

    -the feeling: Cutesy.

-mars volta: I've heard their music described as "piss-soaked indulgence." So basically, they seem to think they're better than they actually are.

-metric: They try a little too hard, but they have a few good songs.

-bright eyes: Sometimes alright, sometimes laughable.
  • oo yeah the feeling are pretty good - i saw them live a while back - but for some reason i feel sorta..pretentious about liking them - they're alot more pop-ish than i usually listen to.

i'd also reccomend getting the new york fund's EP - they supported OK go at koko and they were awesome.
also i'm pretty into the fratellis and the view atm - both their albums are pretty good.
and for randomness sake i'd reccomend ben taylor, too.

yeah i got most of the fratellis album and its not bad..
i read about the view in the paper but haven't listened to them yet.
and yeah i think about a month ago i went to the feeling's myspace page and liked a couple songs but i forgot.. maybe i'll do that tonight.
and i'll add new york fund and ben taylor to my list smile.gif
i've been to koko once - its so cool!!! but i was there for like barely an hour... don't ask a combo of jet lag and other factors..
  • fratellies are amazing live

get begin to hope by regina, her first album might be abit hardcore for your taste

    it hurts becuase its true...

I love bright eyes but i tend to like drunk conor better than sober conor, is that weird?
  • For Bright Eyes, I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning is excellent if you're okay with folk music, and try Live It Out for Metric.

-Minus the bear: I never really got into them. meh.
-Regina Spektor: Absolutely stunning. I can listen to her music in any mood. "The Ghost of Corporate Future" is slowly becoming my mantra to life.
    -Metric: Worth listening to. Definitely.
-Bright Eyes: I agree with the "sometimes alright, sometimes laughable" sentiment

Bands I'm listening to A LOT right now:
-Queen: though my love for them remains fairly constant, I've been listening to them nonstop for the past few days

-Apollo Sunshine: I didn't like them live when I saw them open for OK Go, but I'm slowly learning to adore some of their songs, especially "the Egg"

-Architecture in Helsinki: light and airy. Perfect for spring

-I'm From Barcelona: lots of bells and whistles and a 29-person group. They're fantastic

-The Go! Team: half cheerleading, half rock

-Bob Dylan: classic. Dink's Song is amazing. I'm listening to it now and trying not to sing along too loudly.

-The Dead Milkmen: (kind of old) punk rock group. "Bitchin' Camaro" is a classic.

-Art Brut: Lyrics include "I've seen her naked twice!" and "Modern art makes me want to rock out." What's not to love?

-Yann Tiersen: remains beautiful, even after watching Amélie and listening to the soundtrack numerous, NUMEROUS times

-Mates of State: didn't really like them at first. Am enamoured now.

-Squirrel Nut Zippers: they make me feel like I'm listening to a swing band back in the day. They make me want to dance.

-The Mountain Goats: EVERYONE MUST LISTEN. In terms of depth and stength of lyrics, TMGs are very similar to Arcade Fire, only sans the orchestral sound. It's a simple guitar/vocal combo for the most part, with a couple of instrumental additions, but the lyrics are beautiful and full of so much emotion.

-The New Pornographers: indie rock essential

-They Might be Giants: they're coming out with a new CD. They're the essential geek rock and I love them so much for it. Any band who writes songs about bangs, Edith Head, James K. Polk, and the sun are automatic winners. They call me Dr. Worm.

-Voxtrot: they should be bigger than they are. "Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives" feels like the summer evenings.

I only just got into music a few months ago too!
ok go actually introduced me to "good" music, so to speak. before them i just listened to the commercial stuff on the radio. Even being on this board I'm getting introduced to new things plus I'm finally giving the ones i've heard of but never listened to a go... if that makes sense

    basically, thanks guys!! smile.gif

I'm the sama way! Months ago I would just listen to whatever everyone was listening to and what was on the radio. OK Go opened my eyes to non-crappy music in the world. I love being the one to tell my friends about this sweet new band. You guys keep the music coming with these other amazing bands...much thanks
