Is Dan married!!! I see a wedding ring in that photo. When did that happen?
Dan married his longtime girlfriend in September. Welcome to the boards, Gwenie!
And Shalu, yeah, actually we did notice that. I think Becky actually asked Andy about it at the Meet and Greet and he said that they were all wearing white shirts now.
I think Becky actually asked Andy about it at the Meet and Greet and he said that they were all wearing white shirts now.
It was funny. When they were all up on the balcony, I saw Damian and Andy standing next to each other and I was like 'ha. twins' and tim and dan didn't really abide by those standards... dan was wearing a pretty powder blue shirt, and tim was pretty fecking stylish. as usual.
okay. last night, youtube kept crapping out on me, but when i just checked, one of my videos actually uploaded!! so. here's about a minute of AMW that Damian did w/ Bonerama... I would like to ask you to all draw your attention to Damian. You can see exactly how happy he was and if you think the little dance moves I managed to get on camera... wait til you see Angie's video
I didn't know this man could do anything else that could make me fucking love him more...but I was wrong. I am now in love with his funky dance moves. I am currently uploading my videos so they will be up soon I hope!
Becky...those pictures are PRICELESS. They turned out to cute!
This first one is of Damian talking about New Orleans and then introduces Bonerama. It's super blurry...I wasn't even zoomed in half the time and my camera wouldn't focus. So annoying...but it's really nice what he talks about in it
Before I begin my first installment of the long-ass recap, the radio station I listen to in the morning is doing a Big Money Name Game. They call out two initials, and if they're yours and you are caller 10, you get $500. They called out D & K. It was so odd because they called it while I was writing something about Damian. The winner ended up being Denise Kalusa (sp?). The DJs exclaimed, "We need a DK!" I wanted to scream Damian Kulash, but I'm at work and that would be rude. I digress.
Here is my first installment. I've actually started at the meet & greet as that is what I wrote about on the plane home. Please enjoy:
After the show, Rachel and I went back to the balcony to wait for the guys to show up for the Meet & Greet. Rachel needed water badly, as did I. So, we had some water and some of the free munchies up there. I never did get my two free drinks, oh well.
Finally the guys walk out of the top balcony by the stage and walk over to where we were. The first one through was Damian. I shook his hand and told him my name. I gave him a Party Pez Donkey and then took it back and gave it to Tim. See, I got 4 Party Pez Donkeys to give to the guys. I originally picked up two, one for me and one for Damian as he is the most vocal about voting. Then I thought, I should really give each of them a Donkey, so I picked up two more. I digress. I had two and Rachel had two as all four wouldn’t fit into my bag. So, she called Damian and Dan to give her Donkeys to and I of course had Andy and was lucky to get Tim. Once I gave Tim his Donkey, Rachel gave Damian his Donkey. I also shook Tim’s hand and told him my name. Andy was right behind Tim so I handed over his Donkey and then shook his hand and told him my name.
I explained that I was giving out the Donkeys because of the show that they were doing on Monday (tonight), Barack Rock and that it would be great in the spirit of things. I didn’t hear this part, but Rachel said that Andy said, “I didn’t know they made furry Pez”. I really can’t quite recall what was between the Donkey talk and then me asking Andy why he wasn’t wearing his silver pants. I think he said that it wasn’t a silver pants day or he didn’t feel like silver pants today, something to that effect. Then Rachel nudged me to ask him THE question. Dorky me goes, “Oh yeah. Donde esta los pantalones de colour plata? Which is ‘Where are your silver pants’ in Spanish.” What was really cool, he said the English translation at the same time I did. First he asked me what silver was in Spanish. I said, “Plata. Though I had to ask a friend of mine because I didn’t know the actual word.” He looked kinda confused so I spelled it out P-L-A-T-A. Then I repeated the whole thing with much better diction and pronunciation. The first time I was very nervous spitting it out.
Then we got into a discussion on the correct use of pants.
Andy said, “Is it pantalone or pantalones? And if it’s pantalones, shouldn’t it be estan not esta and is it el or los?” This was a highly interesting conversation. Especially since the last time I really had any discussion about the language was in high school. It was interesting and fun.
Then Rachel nudged me again and said, “No, the other question”.
D’oh!
“Oh yeah, how tall are you?” “How tall do you think I am?” “5’11”?” “Close” “5’10”?” “I’m actually 5’10” and ¾. But if anyone asks, I’m 5’11”. Why do you ask?” “Oh, because I noticed Damian’s ginormous tallness and wanted to know how tall the rest of you were.”
Then I went into how I guessed at his height, which I’m sure he didn’t really need to know. But I think I had word vomit at that point and couldn’t really control what came out of my mouth. I think this is when I asked to take a picture with him.
Rachel was kind enough to take the picture for me.
Sadly, she knew how to operate it so I didn’t get extra “Andy personal space” time. But I thought quickly and asked when the DNLBATW contest would be happening. He said that he knew what it was going to be, but wasn’t sure when it was going to happen and didn’t know how well it would go over with the 7 people who wanted the CD. Psh. I said I knew of at least 3 people who wanted it, not including myself. Then I asked about the new SDR album. He said he has a few songs. He just needs to get them recorded and what not.
Rachel asked about Rocketship Park. I think Andy said they were like a million points behind the front-runner. So then I asked why he couldn’t make a program to automatically vote. He said that he was too lazy.
And all this time, Tim was just kinda hanging out on the side. I think he may have been talking to someone to the left of Rachel, but I was a little too wrapped up in Andy. I had said something about their show on Monday and wished them luck and that they would surely rock the place. Andy asked if I was going. I said no, I had to go back to Chicago the next day. I had only come out here for this show. I was crazy. At some point Tim asked what part of Chicago I was from. I told him Lakeview and he nodded like he knew the area. I couldn’t tell if he really did or if he was being polite.
At this point, one of the guys from the 9:30 Club said that they needed to move to the other balcony to speak with the other meet & greeters. On the way there I had Andy, Tim and Dan sign my bag. And I got a pic with Dan at this point. I think Dan was kinda hanging around the balcony above us.
We followed the guys to the other balcony and let them go see other people. We bumped into the “lead” guy from Bonerama. I forget his name, but he seemed to be the front man of the group. He was very nice. Rachel did most of the talking with him. We found out that he and one of the other guys used to tour with Harry Connick, Jr. I think this was when we were talking about Letterman on the 11th. We both took pics with him. Again, he was super nice and had one hell of a firm hand shake.
After that, we waited to speak with Damian. Of course he was with other people so I decided that I needed to get a pic with Tim. He was talking with his brother and I didn’t want to disturb them, but Rachel said to go for it, so I did. He was of course very sweet and obliged. I kinda did the slump down so I didn’t tower over him. I’m not that tall, but I didn’t want to be slightly taller. I think the pic of Tim and I is the best of all the pics I took with the guys. It kinda looks like a prom pic or something staged for a family/couple photo.
Totally not complaining, it’s so adorable. Then it was Rachel’s turn. Tim takes really good pictures. Then we left him back with his brother and continued to wait for Damian.
In my next installment, we'll get to Damian and Dan.
Oh yeah, Rachel, correct me if I got anything wrong. And let me know if I left anything out.
Becky! I love your write-up! Delicious! And you look sooo happy!!! I love your smile! And your eyes are so bright! And yes, you and Tim do look like a happy couple! And your conversation with Andy- AAAAAA!!!! That is so wicked cool that you discussed Spanish grammar!!! And pants to boot!
Oh yeah, Rachel, correct me if I got anything wrong. And let me know if I left anything out.
You left out the content of my conversations (blanks that I can fill in as soon as I finish getting it typed up), and it was Mike Kent who told the guys they needed to go to the other side of the balcony. Then I said to Andy and Dan that I was sorry for hogging them and one of them said "Oh no problem, you can come with us to the other side too", which was then confirmed by the other and Mike Kent.
Other than that, yeah, you're pretty much right on with the story.

I'm sorry I left your conversations out. I honestly cannot remember them. But yes, I really wanna hear your version! I wanna hear that 4-year old little girl that was squeeing with delight while you were talking with Damian!! Rach, you looked so cute while you were talking with him. And I promise, if we're ever together again and speaking with Damian, I will whisper in your ear how old you are. Then again, you looked so cute!
Before I begin the second installment, I forgot to mention Andy's quick wit. The conversation about his height was bam-bam-bam. I surprised myself that I was able to reply so quickly. Hell, I'm surprised I was able to hold a conversation with him.
And now, the second installment:
Just when Damian finished talking with one group, he jumped to another. Then we spotted Dan, but he was also talking to a group of people. So, we waited again. Finally Damian was free. I shook his hand again and said my name again. He said that he was Damian and again Damian. I got a pic with him and had him sign my bag.
In the process I got sharpie all over his hand. I immediately apologized and he said not to worry, he didn’t think that this would be the sharpie that would kill him. Rachel talked with him about the Obama’s and that Mrs. Obama was going to be speaking near Rachel’s house the following day. Rachel, did Damian ask where you lived at that point? After Rachel had her talk with Damian about Obama, I thanked him for getting the message out there to vote and getting the younger generation to vote. Then it was Rachel’s turn to get her pic taken. And she got a Damian hug. Then he floated to another group of people.
Then we waited to speak with Dan. Rachel took a pic with him and then we started talking. I asked him whereabouts he was from in IL. He’s from Elmhurst, which is about 25 minutes west of Chicago, though it takes longer in bad weather. Dan commented that Chicago had the best drivers because they could drive in any weather. I told him that I had parallel parked in about a foot of snow earlier that day. I then told him we got a ton of snow on Thursday and Friday and it was horrible. Then I asked him if he ever saw the movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. Of course. There’s this one part where Bill walks right into a pot hole filled with water and the insurance salesman goes, “Watch out for that first step, it’s a doozey.” I did pretty much the same thing on Friday. And had the salesman been there to say that, I would have simply died of laughter. He said that he hates the snow and would probably never move back to Chicago. Then he said that he had a doozey, he walked out of his house yesterday in shorts. “What a doozey.” So I punched him in the arm. Not hard, but I punched him. I then said that it felt like summer in DC because it was 50 degrees when we landed and the sun was shining. We haven’t seen the sun in like three days in Chicago. Then he said that if it gets cold out, then he just jumps into the hot tub. “What a doozey.” So I punched him again.
Dan is such an awesome guy to talk to. And I was really surprised he let me punch him.
I had also commented on how hard it was to get a good pic of him because the kit is always obstructing him. He said that he was trying to work it into the show where he would stand up behind the kit and say “Take a picture of me now”. I said that there were no real good places to take a picture of him that I knew of, did he know of any? He said, “Sure, right on the side”. Sure, but I’d get kicked out of the concert if I attempted anything like that. I told him that probably the best time to get any pics is when he’s fixing the kit from the previous drummer which made me ask if his bass drum was damaged at the Missouri show when the one guitarist leapt off the drum. He asked which band it was. I told him Office and then this look of not hate, not loathing, but annoyance came over his face. He said that he had told him before the show not to do that. I said something like, yeah, when you came out to fix the kit you had an expression of “what the fuck”. I asked if it flattened the bottom of the drum. Dan said it didn’t, but it messes with the legs or something and makes it wobbly and then the sound gets messed up because the drum isn’t as sturdy as it’s supposed to be. He looked genuinely annoyed even now at that.
We also got into a conversation about the iPhone and how awesome it is and that we should all get one. I’m like, it’s expensive. He said, you can totally do it. Instead of going out to eat, save that money in a jar on the fridge and then you’ll have it for the iPhone in like a month or so. I told him that I couldn’t because I was in a contract with Verizon. He asked how much it was, psh, I had no idea as my boy pays for the phones. Well, he said, it’s probably something like $60, you can totally do this. Then I said, I didn’t want to get with AT&T as they’re the only ones who give the service. Then I asked him how many minutes he has. He has 900 minutes, free unlimited text messaging and internet. I asked how much. He said it was like $80 a month.
We spoke about something else and then we decided to part ways. He thanked us for coming to the show. And we thanked him for putting on the awesome show. I told him that he has to come back and visit Chicago. He said that they might be stopping by in June, in the summer. Then he gave us hugs!! Dan is an awesome hugger! He totally brushed the side of my face with the side of his face. Too Sweet!! Dan is such a nice guy. If I didn’t have this bliss in silver pants thing and he wasn’t married, he’d be my new crush. Actually, all of OK Go have special places in my heart. It’s just that Bliss’ is much bigger and swankier.
Rachel and I finally left the building. Rachel, you were freaking glowing when we left. And well, Rachel didn’t have her jacket. So we headed to the car and only Adam was there. No jacket. So, we thought that Angie, Katie and Amy may have had it. Nope. We went back to the club as Angie, Katie and Amy were coming back to the car. The club wasn’t letting anyone back in, but Rachel managed to get in to ask one of guys to look under the stage for it. And Dan was at the entrance. Rachel, were you able to talk with Dan some more? I really couldn’t tell. I did see you point out to Angie and Katie. Rachel was reunited with her jacket and came out by us followed by Dan. He came out and spoke with Amy, Angie and Katie for a bit. He said that he needed to speak with the drummer from Bonerama. Then the mob from the alley streamed over to see Dan. So we went to go and let the drummer know that Dan was looking for him. Okay, the drummer from Bonerama is freaking nice as all hell. He kept telling us that we need to go to New Orleans and that their website is bonerama.NET! not bonerama.com, it’s gay porn. He said we should go on there and sign up for their mailing list. Dan finally caught up to the van of Bonerama and the drummer. He didn’t really spend much time with the mob from the alley.
After that, we all headed to the car. 6 of use fit into the car as Amy took us on a little sightseeing tour of DC. Granted we couldn’t actually get out of the car and take pics, it was nice to see some of the sights that are out there. I took some very crappy pictures from the car. Movement and no flash are not conducive to good pictures. I might go back to DC one day to see the sights properly, maybe on Inauguration Day. We dropped off Amy and then headed back home, crashed, woke up, had pancakes and went to the airport.
One thing I know I will never say the next morning in the company of Angie, Katie and Rachel is “why do my knees hurt”. Especially after a meet & greet, if I ever get to do that again.
And now I’m kinda bummed as I really don’t have anything to look forward to. This was like a big momentous journey and it all ended too fast. But I did have the best time. Bonerama was freaking awesome and of course the boys were spectacular as always. Plus it was nice to meet Rachel and Adam and Amy. And as always great to meet up with Angie and Katie. Rachel, if the guys have a show in the Chicago area and you need some place to crash, you’re totally welcome at my place. Same goes for you too Angie and Katie. As long as you’re not allergic to cats, that is.
This weekend was truly worth it.
And hey I might actually talk about the show in my final installment.
I'm sorry I left your conversations out. I honestly cannot remember them. But yes, I really wanna hear your version! I wanna hear that 4-year old little girl that was squeeing with delight while you were talking with Damian!! Rach, you looked so cute while you were talking with him. Darling, you have nothing to apologize for! I would've left your conversations out too, they're not mine to tell. And as for me and Damian, ::sigh:: I am glad that you thought I was cute. Let's hope Damian thought so too, and that he wasn't weirded out by the 4 year old in the 27 year old body in front of him. Someday I'll get it together. Maybe Amy needs to start nudging me while I'm talking to him "Rachel, calm down, you're a grown, married woman."
(But the picture of me and him did come out okay, and he doesn't look like he wants to run in another direction, so I suppose everything's okay)
(But the picture of me and him did come out okay, and he doesn't look like he wants to run in another direction, so I suppose everything's okay)
YAY!!! How did the rest of the pics with guys come out? I'm sure the one with Tim is as cute if not cuter than mine. That boy cannot take a bad picture.
my favorite part is the way you two are around them/talk about them rach is married, and becky will be soon. i love it. i'm glad your hub's are so understanding!!! my guy friends get annoyed with the way i talk about them... however. well. whatever.
I am still in complete shock that A. They opened with You're So Damn Hot and B. Performed Bye Bye Baby for the encore. I think my life is complete...thank you for capturing that, Katie

YAY!!! How did the rest of the pics with guys come out? I'm sure the one with Tim is as cute if not cuter than mine. That boy cannot take a bad picture.
