For some reason I really, really, REALLY want to buy a book right now.

I don't know what that book is or where I will find it, but I just know that I want to purchase one.

    My recommendations:
"Invisible Cities" by Italo Calvino (strangely uplifting. It's basically full of one-page descriptions of made-up cities.)
"House of Leaves" by Mark Z. Danielewski (quite an undertaking. Beautiful and terrifying)
"In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote (because everyone should read Capote)
"East of Eden" by John Steinbeck
    "Beloved" by Toni Morrison
and, especially, "Everything is Illuminated" by Jonathan Safran Foer. It's beautiful and breaks my heart every time. I've read it four times and I honestly believe it's one of the most brilliant books I've ever read. Foer is brillliant and is in the running (accfording to Time Magazine I think) to be one of this generation's greatest writers... but then again, I'm biased toward that inclination... so yeah.

Hope you find a good book to enjoy!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Build a Bear is fantastic; there's no way to argue otherwise. You get to build a stuffed animal. Brilliant!

Hope your birthday was amazing! (from the way you mentioned it, it definitely sounded amazing! biggrin.gif)

"East of Eden" by John Steinbeck

I loved that book. I've only read it once, for AP English senior year, but when I was reading it, I could read 300 pages in one night. There's a section of 30 pages not too far from the end that I never read, because I had to skip ahead to the ending for the quiz the next day, so I actually haven't read the ENTIRE book, haha. But it was on sale at Costco this summer and I bought it so I'll get to read it again some day. smile.gif

Speaking of books, I bought The New York Notebook yesterday at a museum bookstore. (Let it be known right now that I don't understand modern/contemporary art at all. I just don't get it. But they did have this nifty exposition of "Micro-Nations," which are all nations that people have made up or single islands that have seceded and what not. So there was a thing for Christiana in Copenhagen, and Sealand, and the nation that John and Yoko made up but I can't remember its name right now. Oh, and one from this Welsh bookstore owner who declared himself king of the town and they had his crown and sword on display. It was pretty interesting. Its something I think you'd like, Amy.) Anyway, it's a cross between a guide of all the best places in New York from a native New Yorker and a blank book and I love it. I can't wait to go back to the city. I just sort of wish someone would make the same kind of book for Paris, as a really personal guide like that would be great.

    1) Oh my god what a beautiful book. It looks intimidating, but it's amazing and the characters are the most "real" of any book I have ever read. You actually feel like you're developing relationships with them (or was that just me?)
    2) I shall look into it! So far, my guide to New York has been my friends and I wandering and hoping to find something interesting. It usually works out just fine, like the time we found rollerblades at a Goodwill store and ended up rollerblading around the Boat Pond in Central Park for a couple of hours, being shown up by a bunch of little girls on rollerskates.
Now, between my friend going to school in the city and Ken being the museum afficionado that he is, it's like having walking maps. I shall certainly look into the guide however, as it sounds awesome!

Whenever I get bored or stressed, I draw really stupid things in Photoshop. SO relaxing. I recommend it (Paint works just as well).

  • I don't remember much about reading it, just that Cathy was evil and therefore amazing and interesting.

Don't know where "My vinyl ate my homework" came from. I just thought it up randomly.
  • HAHAHAHA! The face makes it the winner.

  • Costco is basically where my mom lives.
  • My dad, too!
  • AHHH!! I just got back from semi-formal. It was amazing. Everyone was so pretty. And there was free cake/sno cones.

T-doggy, buy a book by John Steinbeck. He is epic.

My mom loves Costco like you wouldn't believe. She won't buy anything unless it's on sale/available at Costco... it's not like we're short on money or anything, either. She's just a money-saving freak.
  • I finally finished the Tetris scarf I was making for my friend.
