^^ Tonetoile, I think that man is brilliant. How ever did you discover him?
He had an amazing show at the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art. I went back in the day (it was a spectacular show; there was another artist named Jean-Pierre Gauthier who made these huge contractions out of pipes and jars and speakers. One had headphones hanging from the ceiling and, when you put them on, it would trigger all these contraptions to start around the room that did things that made very little sounds, like raking sand of rolling a bottle. The sound was amplified through the headphones and you could just stand there and listen forever. Another room had metal rubbing against jar lids and I swear it sounded just like frogs at night).
Guy Ben-Ner had the tree house, but he also had a video piece where he recreated parts of Moby Dick in his kitchen, the mast coming out of the sink, his then very young daughter as Queequeg/Pip. It was fantastic. All of his stuff is fantastic and yet feels like he kind of just happened to make it in his home and share it with everyone. I was so thrilled to see him in New York Magazine.
There can be no introductions for such genius. So, without any further ado, George Harrison and Paul Simon singing "Homeward Bound:" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3LJ28o2jj0
I could watch this on repeat forever.
P.S. I've completely inherited my love for Simon and Garfunkel from my Mom. She used to sit with me, listening to their music and just tell me how they were absolute perfection, how they sounded like one person, how moving and beautiful it was. And it's true. I'm lucky to have a mom like her, who gave me Simon and Garfunkel and Carol King and Janis Joplin and Joni Mitchell.
This song has been my favorite ever since I learned how to properly use my mom's record player so I could listen to it over and over: "For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her" What a perfect love song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdc8qsTZ_Uw
yes yes yes yes and yes I've loved Simon and Garfunkel since my dad got their greatest hits cd in his stocking for Christmas. It must have been what, 1st grade? I love my dad's taste in music, and I love that I've inherited most of it. when I went to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Frusciante (the guitarist) did a solo version of For Emily. It was amazing, and more or less made my life. It definitely made the concert ten times better for me. Like, I was listening, and I turned to my friend and screamed "It's Simon and Garfunkel!!!!!" akjdsfgaljgh it was so great.
what make me happy, other than Simon and Garfunkel, is thusly:
my youth group and my friends in it nice people civilization, and showers having a home to live in having people who care about me totally rocking the Brown interview even though I was sooo tired and had a splitting headache warm meals coffee and Ashes to Ashes, the sequel to the show Life On Mars, which just recently started in England and is already online oh, and the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice. rawr.
^^Hurray, phatommilk! I knew you'd rock it. I love your happy list.
Here's my happiness for the day: I have a friend so wonderful, he wrote me an e-mail that brought me to tears. He's the only one that could tell me what I needed to hear, and made me feel complete relief and an utter boost in my confidence. He's not reading this so I can just say: MK you rock so very very much!
(Now if I had called him "Mr.K" I could've really really confused y'all)
-FINALLY getting to see an old friend after TWO years... (well, I haven't seen her yet, but I will in 2 weeks!) -Mayo -Having a relaxing Saturday in at home home. At my mom's. She made me dinner, and then bfast Sunday morning awesomes -Thinking about the everything bagel w/ cream cheese I'll be eating in an hour... -The thrill of getting out of this class....
I am horribly bored. 8am classes are THE worst. Especially when they start at 8am and go to 9:50am... and they go the ENTIRE time. Angie either A. Can't connect to the wireless or B. Pulled a me, and skipped her 8:30am... I'm figuring she can't get her wireless to connect b/c she's not a slacker like me. edit: I just thought of another... C. She has an exam in the class.. haha I don't know if she does or not, but it definitely prevents you from getting online...
- Colin Firth in general phantommilk, he's so great! - finally getting one result of my exams, the one I was most afraid of, I got through and remarkably well I might add - OK Go podcast #3 - The Dan Shirt, that's almost finished now - my future nephew/niece, that's now 5cm big (one excited phonecall from my sister) - no classes till april (incredible how long vacations at uni are) - colour (in opposition to all the greyish weather) - Milosh - the skirt I'm wearing - spagetti - thinking about things that make me happy, makes me happy, it's like a vicious circle, only it's not vicious, it's happy. A happy circle, that's what it is. - rhyming, ha! (no no, this is not a rhyme, and I'm not rhyming here, only in pms, yes... haha, so weird)
Red Hot Chili Peppers John Frusciante (the guitarist)
Okay... I just started listening to them again, because I've been on a strict OK Go diet for forever... and I have missed them and I'm in love w/ John Frusciante *sigh*
Okay... I just started listening to them again, because I've been on a strict OK Go diet for forever... and I have missed them and I'm in love w/ John Frusciante *sigh*
mmmm it's always amazing to rediscover old obsessions and yeah, John Frusciante = times a million I actually get into arguments with my friend over it (she prefers Antony Keidis... but no. no way. )
-how my mom automatically makes me macaroni&cheese whenever she makes Colcannon because she knows I hate it. I mean, it's not even St. Patrick's day yet, which is when I usually have to put up with it. But I love my mom.
- wizard rock. still. I've just been listening to it again, and there's seriously nothing as nerdy or as wonderful as it is. and there's so much raw talent, it's frightening. yet amazing? yeah. yeah that.
That's so awesome. I've always wanted to do an IKEA photoshoot that would just be me sleeping in all the beds, but I never got around to it. Plus, I thought they might kick me out or ban me if I did that.

Yay! You're totally going to get into Brown! And Pride and Prejudice is definitely on my happy list. I think my mom will be glad when the last part airs because my sister and I just keep yelling, "Mr. Darcy!!" at five minute intervals when we're watching it.
-eating tons of cookies -comparing British biscuits to Australian biscuits (Tim Tams are definitely better than Penguins, but chocolate covered Digestives are surprisingly tasty)
YAY ALICE! oh, send her my wishes when you see her in (if I'm not mistaken) 2 days!!
Yes, the day after tomorrow. I certainly shall tell her you said hello, Mayo! The two of us are going to be standing there telling each other that our mutual friends say hi, and hugging each other for the boardies, for a good 30 minutes at least, I think.
And Pandy, don't you worry about that. I am taking her for proper NY Cheesecake in Grand Central Station. I will take VERY good care of our Allie.
- getting The Two Man Gentleman Band CDs I ordered along with a Kazoo and more buttons - scaring my cats with said Kazoo - Penn Jillette and Adam Corolla are gonna be participating in Dancing With The Stars in March, among others
OHMYGOSH OHMYGOSHHHHH That means mine should be in when I get homeeee! AHHHHHHHH this is going to make aerobics go by SOOOO slowkdljafl;kdsjflkadjsfkljdsflkjds;lfsd
Ya know, it took me a sec to remember that. Hey, now I can hum along with the Gents and with SDR.
Now I need to figure out who to gift my second Benji Cossa Between the Blue and the Green CD to. I love it, but someone else should get to experience Benji's awesomeness.
