  • heh thanks! I can't believe that guy just gave it to me! I didn't even ask! I do hope i thanked him... i can't really remember now.
  • eeeeee! Congrats so much!!!

And it was that cold, oof! Hahahaha, I bet Damian was surprised. Beach plans over! lol!

Were you using a fake ID? Or was the security guy just pretending to examen your ID and didn't really care how old you were?

You got Dan's set list!!!! Will you frame it?

YOU SAW DAMIAN AND TIM GOING TO THE VAN!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You were so calm and nice and polite - I really admire that! You're such a sweet person!

Isn't Dan so pretty in person?! And that was awesome that he smiled when you shouted!

I loved that take off your clothes part! And I loved how you described it- him smirking instead of stripping. Hehe, he does know how to tease.

And you got Damian sweat and spit! From anybody else, that'd be gross, but from Damian, it adds to the concert experience smile.gif
  • o wow!!! where do I begin???

that concert sounds totally awesome!! I'm so happy you got to go in!

ya did you use a fake id or something?

that's so cool that you saw Tim and Damian before the show!

ooo you got Damian's spit haha lucky haha and you got to witness his smirk in person, yaaa

and that setlist is awesome!! and you were like right up front!

wow just everything seems so awesome!!! ahhh congrats!!!!!!!
  • WOW i'm so happy that you had a good time! it was so funny how you described Damian's spit landing on u. lucky girl! I bet you had the best possible OK Go concerting experience EVER!
  • Hey guys,
I was at the Sydney show too. I'm quite impressed at your memory because I had to make notes in my phone all night (including set list) to ensure I could write a review worthy of OK Go's performance. Still, I wouldn't have had it any other way. Shame it sounds as though the fans in Melbourne were treated to a rather lousy performance.

I'm still confused how JB managed to get past security? Did you have a fake ID? It must have been a pretty mean fake because usually it's easy to tell because it doesn't have the inprint that is exposed when rotated under light.

Anyway, my review is located here: http://www.last.fm/user/whereswaller/journ...07/08/4/492087/
    Let me know your thoughts...

PS. If anyone has any video from the Sydney concert, please upload it on YouTube.

Yeah i was using a fake ID and we kind of made them ourselves.. to be honest i thought they were terrible and i think the bouncer may have known and just didn't want to make a fuss and cause a scene or something. He was that classic big bald guy, his head was probably cold so he just wanted to get it over and done with tongue.gif

I so want to frame the set list! It's so beautiful!! I have it hanging up on my wall right now and as soon as a find a frame worthy enough i'll get it sorted!

Awww thank you!!! You're really lovely too! I can't believe you read all of that!

Dan is so pretty! I always thought he looked nice but in the flesh he has something more... he's stunning!

Damian was such a tease! omg he did that smirk so many times!! I was directly underneath him and i'd see him sort of peek out from under his eyelids at the crowd and smile smile.gif So many people seem to think that Damian's spit is gross, i'm glad you guys understand! It really did at to the experience!

It was really funny, everytime he'd spray one of us with sweat we'd turn around and be like "He sweat on me!!! Again!!"

Your review is really good! You got heaps of things i missed, like the Brisband/Florida thing and you described it in a lot more detail.. i just talked about how beautiful everyone was! I loved reading through the whole experience again! wub.gif

Yeah, the Melbourne one sounded awful! Mabye giggleguy didn't miss out on all that much after all... if that's any consolation.
Oooh i just noticed you're seeing Kaiser Chiefs today too!! Mabye i'll see you there!

I cannot believe my fake id worked, I'm still in shock! We had to keep pinching ourselves once we got in there!

I remembered another bit, when they left the stage for the last time Damian was shouting "Thank you! Thanks" etc to everyone and then he pointed to the people along the front (i.e. me!) and said much more softly, "and thank you!" wub.gif

haha aww that is too cute, and totally awesome!!!!!!!

i can actually imagine him doing that

    sounds like an awesome time!
  • ooo, JP, hugs to you! I'm sooo glad for you that you took that risk and made an ID, eee, and you must be totally ecstatic- it was so worth it!
That bouncer, if he did know, was a really nice guy- good things will happen to him in the future in return smile.gif

It was really sweet because during the show he acted like he didn't really notice us and tried to avoid eye contact (although i got him a few times!), so it was nice to know that he did appreciate it.

Andy was pretty stiff.. i don't know if he's usually like that but he didn't seem anywhere near as friendly as the others. He evn told us to 'shhhh' ohmy.gif

That's a really nice way to think about it with the bouncer. I really do hope good things happen to him cause he sure deserves them!

    Oooh i can't wait to read LolaBert's review!!! smile.gif

I wonder if he was saying it in a cute way? Sometimes, from what I hear, he can be the most serious one.
I do remember though that when I first saw them, Tim was the stiff one. But some months later, I saw them again and Tim was really hyper and interacting with the crowd.
So maybe it'll be the same for you and when you see them again (which I'm sure you will smile.gif )Andy will be hyper.
  • Yeah, i know he didn't mean it rudely, he just wanted us to be quiet because Damian had disappeared and we wouldn't find him again if our screaming drowned out his vocals laugh.gif
It was like hide and seek!

I bet Andy was just tired after chasing marsupials all day! wink.gif

    a very animated Damian:

  • EEEE! I'm so happy for you Juniperberry!

    What happened in Melbourne?

I'll post a proper post soon, I'm just really happy for you!

Just got back from the Arctic Monkeys (brilliant) and need food/shower.
  • Apparently Damian chucked a tanty at the Melbourne show, someone mentioned it in a comment on whereswallers review for Sydney.

I can't wait to read yours!!!

    Juniperberry!

That was amazing how you fooled the security guards with your homemade fake IDs. So damn worth it!! Some security people can be nice like that, but alas, they are few and far in between.

And you scored a set list!! That's so cool! Treasure it!!

And Dan heard you scream out to him!

And you got to be right at the front! You lucky thing!

THAT has got to be the best thing ever!

Oh god, I just read that comment on whereswaller's journal. That has got to suck, being at that show. It sounded as if Damian got really, really, really pissed. And over what? A problem that was fixed in under 2 mins? Geesh!

Um, are those pics (from me) above working for anyone else?

They're playing at Splendour in about 3 hours time!!
  • I'm afraid i can't see those pics anymore, they were there yesterday though cuz i saved them.

Oooh is Splendour being broadcast live anywhere!?

C'mon LolaBert, we want more!!! smile.gif

  • SORRY AGAIN!
  • DOUBLE POST! Sorry.
  • This is basically the full version. Pictures and the full(er) version can be found at HERE!

So, upon leaving for the Valley at around 6, I met up with fellow OK Go-ers (shut up, I had to use that at least once) Kate and Danielle. Kate was horribly ill and extraordinarily hopped up on cold and flu medication.

Anyways, because tonight’s show was at The Zoo, we decided to not be there too early (well they decided, I was outvoted) as there are never lines at the Zoo. We were wrong. At about 7:30-sih, we espied a sizeable line out the front. I told Kate that I hated her, and for good reason. I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE FRONT!! IT REALLY WASN’T TOO MUCH OF AN ASK!, considering where it was and all the other bands that were playing that night (sold out Kaiser Chiefs and a free Tilly and the Wall show). There were about 30 or so people in front of us, which I know sounds okay, but the Zoo is REALLY small.

So the doors opened at 8 - after the supporting band, The Dirty Secrets, strutted out of the door and walked past us. I use the term ‘strut’ here for a reason, because that’s exactly what they did. Danielle imitated them hilariously, and I think they saw her, for they stopped and turned to look around. Oh well.

So we then had to wait around until 9:15 for The Dirty Secrets to start.

It turned out okay. I only had one girl in front of me. She was a super excited fan with her other super excited fan friend and other normal friend who was there for shits and giggles. I think if I were right up at the front, I probably wouldn’t have as much fun as I did though.

Then The Dirty Secrets came on. They were bitchin’ to say the least. Okay, I’m sure I would’ve appreciated them more if I weren’t waiting for OK Go. All their songs sorta sound the same and the lead singer was a proper twat. The bass guitarist looked like Bob Fossil but said that the OK Go guys were ‘really nice people’ as we know they are.

And then the moment came. The projector lit up the back wall with graphics of wallpaper and such. Dan was the first to come on to … test his drums? I’m not sure. But then he left and we waited. And waited and waited. And then Andy came out! Then Dan, and Damian, and Tim. And then the first keyboard strains of “The House Always Wins” were heard. And it was lovely.

Here’s a set list (from as far as I can remember)

    The House Wins
    Television, Television
    The Fix Is In
    No Sign Of Life
A Good Idea At The Time
    Violent Femmes Cover

    Acoustic Set
    A Million Ways
    What To Do

    Oh Lately It’s So Quiet
    Don’t Ask Me
    Get Over It
    Invincible
    Here It Goes Again

    Encore
    ELO Cover
    Do What You Want

As they ended their first song, some obnoxious guy yelled out REALLY loudly ‘DAMIAAN!’ to which he replied dryly “Yes that is who I am.” It was kinda hilarious that it was a guy who screamed his name out first when Danielle was so sure that I would be the one to do so - in a squeaky high pitched fangirl tone. I didn’t. You can be sure of that.

TV, TV - Damian’s microphone (with camera on the end!) fell off the stand halfway through the song. He just laughed before recovering. Consummate professionals indeed.

The Fix Is In – They changed “Boston” to “Brisbane.” Awww. I was happy when Danielle sang along to “The Fix Is In”, or as it’s known to her “Track 15!”

Apparently, the guys did go to see marsupials as they went to Australia Zoo. I knew it! Tim got his wish!

And they did attempt somewhat of an Australian accent when some loser yelled out “They’re gay!” to something or rather. Idiot. Damian and Tim imitated him in a really broad and terrible Australia accent which came out something like “goiye!”

A Good Idea At The Time - For some unknown reason, Damian got the giggles and just stopped signing halfway, laughing and pausing before continuing. Everyone was baffled.

Cover – He let us choose! When he asked for a cover version, The Cure obsessed Danielle and I yelled out ‘Lovecats’ even though I knew (haha, beforehand) that it was gonna be a choice between the Femmes and ELO. We “chose” the Femmes, to which Damian replied that we had “exquisite taste Aussies.” It was mental! He left the stage halfway and Tim’s looking at Dan and Andy all ‘what?’ only to appear towards the back. He hilariously shoved Kate to get back onto the stage and I will forever remember the look of horror and (revulsion?) on her face. Priceless.

I should note that somewhere in one of these songs (I just don’t remember, sorry) he asked us if we listened to radio. Upon receiving an affirmative, he did the whole Nelly “It’s getting hot in here!” (it really was, funnily enough, considering it was winter, but the fact that I was squished between SuperFans at the front, couples making out and grinding against each other at my sides and Kate and Danielle at my back, made sense) to which we correctly replied “So take off all your clothes!” (Some girl behind us was like ‘God yes!’ He complied by taking off his jacket, revealing his dandy shirt, tie and broach ensemble.

I would just like to say that, while, yes, okay, Damian is the front man and all, I kept pointing my camera towards Andy. I wuv Andy, he’s so adorable and I kept thinking “Andy and Dan needs some love!” And Tim! Well, Tim is just Tim and you can just tell that this is his life and what he does best. Unfortunately, the position that I was in, didn’t grant me such great shots of Tim, but I was pretty happy anyway with what I got.

Damian then took out a giant torch and said that they were going to play a set somewhere in the middle of the floor because he wanted to “feel the Australian people in the flesh” (to which those girls behind us said “He can feel me!”, which ew.) The torch is something “that he punishes people with” but they can “punish him with it.” Just don’t flash it in his eyes or he’ll play badly. They then gave it to an audience member to use as a spotlight. Andy, Tim and Damian left the stage and then told everyone around them to sit and/or duck down so the others could see. It was like being in school. (“Can every one see up at the back?!”) Unfortunately some losers in front of me would not do it so I was stuck. Luckily my two lackeys took some lovely photos. I wanted to actually get up on stage and ended up shoving those SuperFans in front of me. I’m sure they hate me now. Oh, I didn’t get up on the stage by the way.

I missed Andy playing the xylophone thingy during AMW! But it was amazing, what I heard. So brilliant. Tim was really, really into it. I love his falsetto backing!

Then they came back on stage. And played my favourite song, OLISQ. Ohhh!

Damian then addressed Grinding Couple No. 1 on my left that the song that they were requesting was a good choice but ‘if they hadn’t noticed [they’re] kinda assholes, not dancing monkeys” going to further explain it that Andy was new (but not really, two years does not make you new) and came to the band after their second record and implied … something or other.. Then some drunken asshole in the crowd said “Fuck off Andy!” I felt like I had to protect sweet Andy and yelled out just as loudly “I love you Andy!” It gives me a fuzzy feeling to know that he heard it.

And then those girls behind us yelled “You’re So Damn Hot!” and as Danielle groaned and turned, about to yell at them, I quickly told her that it’s the name of a song. Haha!

Damian then thanked us for “deflowering [them]” And that he now knew that Australia is really about gay jokes and koalas. Great.

And then it was the ‘last’ song. But not really. There was a picture of a treadmill on the graphics background to which I inanely cheered to. Then they left. We waited. And cheered loudly. And they came back on! (I knew they would, because they hadn’t played DWYW).

“Can’t we just have a break?” Damian asks us snarkily.

Then in a manoeuvre that I didn’t quite catch, Damian took off the cap of his beer bottle with a water bottle. Some drunken assholes yelled out something along the lines of “water opens beers” or “water on beer.” Damian, baffled by a combination of the guy’s drunkenness and his Australian accent, thought he said “banana for tequila?” but finally cleared it up as “water opens beers?” and ending it with “you guys gotta learn to speak fucking English!”

And then they left after playing DWYW, ending a most perfect set and quite possibly, the best hour and a bit of my life.

So as the crowd dispersed, we wandered off to get water, etc. I headed my merry way over to the merch stand to score myself a cool shirt, where the lovely lady there told me that, unfortunately, they had sold out on girls size shirts. I was a little disappointed, but I never look good in shirts anyway.

So we made our way over to a lone seat by the window, not thinking that they’d come out (by that time, The Zoo had emptied quite considerably), but then Danielle goes “hey there’s the drummer!” And lo and behold, Dan was walking past! I called out to him “Hey Dan! Brilliant show!” (or something of the like). He smiled and waved, sort of unsure what was going on and while he was about to walk past, he kind of changed his direction and stepped over to us! He talked to us for a bit, and I asked him for a picture. I said that they had to come back for their next tour and he was like “what’s wrong with us being here now?” I couldn’t tell if he was kidding or not, because I was so astounded that I was actually talking to Dan! Then he said that if I wanted a picture with him “[I was] going to have to get up” because I was still sitting down and for some reason, rather loathe to leave my seat. He came over towards me and I said that “I’m probably taller sitting on the thing than standing up.” Or rather, that was what I meant to say, what actually came out was probably some garbled mess due to my aforementioned speech impediment.

We talked about Splendour and the bands going there (they played with the Horrors in Spain, who Dan described as being “really like the Addams family” I’m not sure of what to make of that.) This so happens to be Danielle’s favourite band and she was sending out less-than-subtle hints about her plight - “I can’t see them!”, “We couldn’t get tickets!” – which actually translates to “Take me with you!!” Then he stole my seat, and I – with my speech impediment - said that he deserved it after a great show. Dan then complimented on Kate’s lovely vintage dress. Everything is better in vintage.

Then he had to make his merry way along and said that they were going to some bar down the road and while we weren’t exactly “invited” (with air quotes) we were welcome to come along. Yeah right!

So we kinda lolled around, seeing if the others would come out. And they did! That was so cool. I never expected them to come out and mingle with the crowd. A lot of them (that is, other musicians in bands) are rather standoffish, so it was nice to see a band that was so approachable and so damn nice!!

We saw Andy across the room and I (leading the others) sorta surreptitiously followed him, using my ninja prowess. He was caught with a bunch of fans but then Damian rounded the corner and I’m like “Hey Damian! Great show!” (It’s my opening line) And at first he sort of didn’t hear me (I’m uber short and there was music playing), but then he saw me and was like “hey, I’m here with some of these other people, come over here!” And I was just like “woah” and we followed him over. I mean, how many others would do that? They’d usually be like, that’s great kid…see ya! But this is someone who, if nothing else, really knows how to, I don’t know, command a crowd, and is just an all round people person, so extremely confident in his ability to charm others. If I had an eighth of his confidence, I’d be pretty chipper. But I am too misanthropic to be like that. So we all got photos with him. I asked how he liked the zoo that day and he’s like “we are at the Zoo!” Oh yeah, my bad. We went to get reshoots because “we blinked and looked terrible.” I apologised profusely and he said “nah, it’s all part of the gig, there’s nothing better than being here posing with you” or something of the sort. I don’t know, I was too busy trying to remember to breathe.

Then Danielle wanted a pic with him as well, because she looked like a zombie in the last one and wanted me to transcribe this small conversation word for word.
“Hey Damian can I get a photo of you because I blinked in this one?”
    “Sure!”
    “Thankyou”
    “Thanks babe”
*blushy* “I, uh like your shoes”
    “Thanks.”
    HAHAHAHA!

By that time, I’m pretty sure he was a bit tipsy, seeing the way that he posed with his adoring fans. Danielle and I later remarked that he was rather, well, um flirty (?) with his fans and that he definitely acted the part of a rockstar (her words, not mine). It really is all in the attitude, methinks. We then concluded that being Mrs. Damian K would kind of suck, what with having a rockstar husband constantly on tour.

And then Andy was right next to us, and I really wanted to talk to him after that horrible heckler. But apparently, according to Danielle, who likes to make me feel bad, he was sorta waiting for me while I got my pic taken with Damian and while Danielle was in a perfect position to talk to him herself, he walked away before I could say anything. He walked over to a group that included – the drummer from the Kaiser Chiefs! They’d obviously finished their show and came over. How cool is that?!

We hung around a bit longer, but knew that our moment was over, as there was no way we could go up to them now. That’d just be rude. So I took one last wistful look at Andy and Tim (I’m angry that I missed out on seeing Tim) and left before we got kicked out again (This happened when we saw the Howling Bells last time).

So towards the end of the night, we took one last walk down the road and I asked Kate suddenly “Is that Dan and Andy in front of us?” Kate said “No” and much to my disappointment, I believed her. It was them. And I was once again thisclose to getting to talk with Andy. But they met up with a bunch of guys from The Dirty Secrets for some after show, bar hopping shenanigans, so we decided to call it a night.

That's it! I took a lot of videos of Damian!Banter, but I have no idea how to show you guys it. Help?

Okay, I'll fix those pics. Thanks for telling me Juniperberry!

Oh how I wish there was a live broadcast of Splendour! But there isn't sad.gif
