Bwuah. Melbourne show was awesome last night. Damian was having issues with his guitar in the opening song (House Wins), went nuts at the sound guys and launched his guitar across the stage, which was an excellent start to the show. As a result of the crappy guitar (which cocked up again later around Invincible), Tim and Damian did a song from Les Mis for us.

I dragged a friend of mine along 'cause I didn't want to go alone. She spent the entire two days leading up to the show complaining and trying to get out of, and the minute the show started she turns to me, points at Damian and says, "That is the most beautiful man I have ever seen." She likes to speak before thinking so when Damian jumped into the crowd to do the acoustic segment in the middle of the crowd she turns to me and yells loudly (keeping in mind it's kinda quiet atm) "God, he smells really bad!", which Damian explains when he reaches the mic in the middle is because they don't change their clothes anymore.

In the end, I left the show in a daze, a with Andy's guitar pic (landed on my jumper, so clrly it was destined for me) and Tim's setlist which I ripped off the floor after they finished their encore. A nice addition to my collection of concert memorabilia (I was front row centre).

o wow, it seems like you had a great time! I too am totally jealous that you got to see the Les Mis bit!! so cool! Did Damian really like flip out?

LolaBert- haha no the annoying girls! I don't think the fake strip could have gotten annoying hahaa

Yay, glad you had a great time!
Also a relief to hear this show wasn't all bad after reading the comment about it on whereswaller's blog (link in this thread). The fact that they did Les Mis completely changes the tone from the impression that recap gave ... And !!! You got to see Les Mis!!!
Did Damian really break a guitar, as it says in that blog comment? I read it and thought, Eeek! Was it the new guitar?

Les Mis!? That makes it all worth it! Damian was just trying to show how rockstar he could be with the dummy spit.

That's so cool, that you caught the pic!!

    QUOTE (LolaBert @ Aug 5 2007, 07:37 PM)
Oh no! I just missed your post! Did they play any other songs other than HIGA?

Haha! Yeah I was sort of contemplating on going, but I felt that would've been way too stalkerish ("oh no, not those girls again!) and I didn't want to ruin what had been a perfect night. Because if we went and talked to them, I probably would've embarassed myself or something!

We're both kind of suckers for guys with beautiful shoes. And he had these wonderful, pointy chelsea boots on *sigh*

They just played HIGA and it wasn't live, stil awesome though!

Oh, you should have gone! Didn't the Chiefs go too? That would have been brilliant!

Damian did up his shoelace on the speaker right in front of us (his feet were very long btw) and i wanted so much to reach out and touch it but i was worried he'd be really protective of his shoes rolleyes.gif

Nope, not at all! Nick and Ricky have both been photographed wearing OK Go shirts themselves. Go for it!

I wore my shirt! No one cared. The show was good but i just cannot get over how bad the support was! If i had to listen to one more Wolf and Cub song I probably would have shot myself there and then! You may think that sounds overly dramatic... it is not! I was having some form of breakdown just listening to them!

    GOD!!!
    Long time no see!

It's awesome that you finally got to see our boys!
and the guitar problems are sad, but I think Les Mis totally makes up for it biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

JB and Lola, both your shows sound awesome. I loved both recaps!

I'm so glad they finally got to Australia... next time, we need Australia with no age restrictions, but it's a step in the right direction, right?
  • No age restrictions would have been great but I must admit 18+ shows are way cooler, people have more respect (unless really drunk)

I reckon by the time they come back I might even be 18 biggrin.gif
  • yeah, I always figured that you hate age-restricted shows when you're too young for them, but once you're old enough, it's the all-ages shows you can't stand.

But they should play an all-ages show for Emmet (Giggleguy), at least. Cause he's been a fan (or at least, a dedicated boardie) longer than most of us.

and hey! it's eight months till I'm 18!! which means, considering the time it'll take for them to take a break and then record the next album, I probably will be 18 the next time they play Boston!! wow, that's a weird thought.

Lolabert, the best sites for video are veoh.com (limitless), dailymotions.com (20 minute limit), Stage6 (I think at least 30 minutes). Then there's Photobucket and Youtube. No matter which one you use though, a heavy file is going to take a while. 230 MB, for example, takes at least 2 to 3 hours.
Thanks Tabetha. I ended up using Google Video and so far it has taken me 24+ hours just to load one file. My computer connection is utter crap.

True! They were so crazy/excited. I don't think they were 18, which just adds to the hilarity.

I can't watch them live. I went to one of their gigs and it just went on and on and on and on and I was like "please stop!"

    Thanks for reading thephantommilk!

Videos should be up soon. And I have a lot of pictures. Do you want to see them? Because I feel that if you've seen what's around the boards already, you've pretty much seen 'em all.

Dammit. *sitting on hands* I can't help it--I gotta come out and say that I hope there's a good excuse for this. Yeah, I wasn't there, but I just checked out that blog comment, and given the way the fan described the incidents, her negative impressions seem quite understandable.

I'm sorry to be so frank with this, as I risk being a downer. This kind of thing just isn't cool, no matter who does it. Not by me, anyway, and not by anyone I know. A rock star who does this is being just another unoriginal cranky bipolar rock star cliché, and putting off fans. Boring. And if this is some kind of weird mindfuck crowd experiment, and not a real meltdown, I'd resent that.

Fans deserve more credit. Brilliance, class, energy, kick-assed-ness, the occasional smart-assed-ness, the emotion, the honesty (even when pissed off) etc. is what I gladly get behind. Smart-assed-ness is amusing, and I can even understand throwing something like a water bottle once in a while in frustration, but this kind of incident--as I understand it being reported, how frustration was expressed--only leaves me searching for ways to excuse it.

And I say this as someone who's had her share of similar meltdowns. I don't want to be overly-hard on somebody knowing myself how hard it is to stay in control sometimes when you have a certain disposition and a lot of stress. It's just that I don't think it's cute or cool, and I'm haunted by it, and I'm ashamed of "expressing myself" in that way giving in to a weakness that I should control, and I'm not going to run around congratulating people who do such things, not even favorite rock stars. sad.gif

Someone please feel free to adjust my understanding if you think I'm way off base or have the story wrong. I'll be happy to be corrected, actually. I'd welcome thoughtful insight that'd make me see this in a better light.

In case the meltdown was real, well, I'm just glad they'll be taking that break to record very soon. They need a vacation NOW by which I mean a year ago. Those poor guys. This tour must have really challenged their sanity. That's one reason I'm making an effort to be as understanding as possible. I'm totally behind them and want the best for them, even if I can't be behind everything they do.

Maybe that's all I really want to say. I just want to forget about it now; I don't like to dwell on crap like this. wink.gif

Mabye i could listen to Wolf and Cub if it was just the one song but it felt like 40minutes of exactly the same thing and do they really need two drummers!!!? The only reason i clapped at the end was because i was so glad they were leaving! I swear it actually smelt worse when they were playing!! ugh

    Yay! Videos and pics please!!

Kareh, I'm going to have to edit my post because it does sound like I'm saying his dummy spit was cool, i meant God catching the pick was cool and when i said Damian was just 'being a rockstar' it was a little sarcastic... I should have learnt long ago sarcasm is not your friend on the internet tongue.gif

I think he's just sick and tired of touring, and who knows, he might have had a rough day. We don't know what happened before hand etc.
Don't dwell on it, as far as I'm aware this is a a one-off for the guys and I'm sure they'll all be feeling better once they've had a well deserved break!

Oh, no need--your post wasn't what I was writing about. I assume you just accidentally got "sprayed" while he sang/talked. The "rock star" sarcasm isn't a problem either. smile.gif I was writing about the spectacle of knocking over equipment and launching a guitar across the stage, breaking it in half--it was mentioned in that blog comment that Sheri referenced before me.
Edit: Here's the link for the impatient: http://www.last.fm/user/whereswaller/journ...07/08/4/492087/ See comments by "i-z-a-b-e-l-a". Here's just an excerpt:
    QUOTE
so the singer went over and started swearing at him and then pushed a giant speaker over onto the guy.
Then he got really shitty and took off his guitar and threw it to the right side of the stage and continued swearing.
Then he threw the mic stand. Then I saw the roadie carrying his guitar over from where it landed and the neck had snapped.
Since this all happened during the first song, they were down one guitar throughout the whole show which didn't help since he was continuously breaking strings.

I can't know how accurate that is, but she posted it on a blog with other readers who were there, so it'd be stupidly bold to lie about it. It's either that, or her memory is faulty and nobody notices, or it's true.

Not to harp on it, but: I know things get incredibly hard, but, bad days or not, people won't put up with that, and excuse it, indefinitely. It's a guarantee that there will be more bad days. The roadies are going through it all, and so are Dan, Tim, and Andy. Dealing in that way just makes it harder, makes co-workers disloyal and mistrustful, and creates chaos. It's just not smart (or cool or cute), and as a fan, I'd only want to discourage that behavior and not let it easily slide by--that'd only let things get nuttier, and I wouldn't want that for our boys and the people involved with them. I hope the guy wasn't hurt (and, if all of this is true, got an apology). I hope, if it happened, that it's an isolated incident, and, at the risk of sounding dramatic, that it was a temporary *SNAP*. I still think Damian's generally a great guy--incidentally, with more patience than I have, in all likelihood.

Well said. I'd really like to know, also, whether this account is true ... God (Katie), since you were in the front row, can you give us the scoop from your position?
  • Maybe the guy in question has been a real arse or something, and deserved a good shaking up, without the intention or possibility of actually hurting him. I'll pin my hopes on that. wink.gif There are still problems with doing that in public, though. (That should be obvious).
  • Thanks Sherib!

Hee! I love you Juniperberry! They were the first show I ever went to, W&C and yeah, I was like "I did not enjoy that." You're right, they kept on playing the same thing over and over and over again. I counted and they seriously played the same bit 100 times! But I like listening to their CD, my favourite is "This Mess." But yeah, live? Not so great. IMO!

How were the Chiefs? You must tell me all about it!!

Kareh - When I read about the Melbourne show, I was a bit disconcerted myself. But as others have pointed out, we have no idea of what the exact circumstances were and what EXACTLY happened. I guess we'll have to wait for Katie's report on this. With that being said, nobody's perfect and everyone is entitled to a spat - just not one in front of a paying crowd there to support them and at the risk of hurting somebody else.

I finally uploaded those videos. Don't get your hopes up, they're nothing spectacular.

    I Love You Andy!
Is it just me or is the screen split into two? What's up with that?
