  • This is stuff I like, which I doubt you will like because of it's sound, but they're worth checking out.

    This Is It The Strokes
    Room on Fire The Strokes
First Impressions of Earth The Strokes
Young for Eternity The Subways (I don't care if you hate Charlotte's voice, it's all good.)
Astoria The Shys (when it is released in June, that is)
Howl Howl Gaff Gaff Shout Out Louds
The Art of Rolling The Blue Van
    Horse Fabulous The Stands
    All Years Leaving The Stands
    Universal Blues The Redwalls
    De Nova The Redwalls
    Safely From The City Locksley
    Everything Is Nine Black Alps
Rooney Rooney (I think you'll really like them if you like AAR)
With Love and Squalor We Are Scientists (especially if you like the Artic Monkeys)
Fever to Tell Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Show Your Bones Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Yeah Yeah Yeahs Yeah Yeah Yeahs

You definitely need some classic stuff, too. Like Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Who

You really need Violent Femmes first album, like stated before. It's the best.
  • The Moldy Peaches are so bizarre! I actually prefer Adam Green's first solo album to the MP album, but I have and like both. biggrin.gif

I have definitely been listening to Young for Enternity a bunch lately.

Also, this thread reminds me how much music I have NOT listened to in my lifetime...

yeah, there are some bands I need to check out I think.

I'm just getting into the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Dresden Dolls (thanks to my lovely friend, Mason. smile.gif)

Also, I adore your Franz avatar.

Why, thank you. I'd forgotten just how much I really love them until I saw them last Friday. I fell in love all over again.

And on that note, Pandy- I'm suggesting the The Fallen/L. Wells single by Franz. "Lynsey Wells" is such a great song- I've been listening to it on repeat for about a week now.
  • ignore everything everyone said...except everything mixtape said. her mixtape's a masterpiece. buy everything she said.

and when tonetoile said elliott smith.

    my adds to your list.

    Pixies - Surfer Rosa

    Pixies - Doolittle

They Might Be Giants - Flood.

Rufus Wainwright also uses tons of layers of amazing piano work, but his stuff is a little mellow. Amaaazing, though.

He is really mellow, but I love his voice and he is definitely an amazing pianist. In my original post, click on his name to go to his myspace page.

And Acceptance is another really cool band, they're much less mellow but also use piano.

MCR's first album is a lot less polished than the second, and it's not quite as over the top, but I still really like it. It's absolutely still really emo/goth and there's still lots of random (often bloody) imagery in the lyrics.
  • May I suggest randomly:
The Guillemots, Air, Royksopp, Psapp, The Cure, Phoenix, The Pretenders, The Sea and Cake, Balkan Beat Box, The Chemical Brothers, Beck

seriously, you have Scott Stapp?! What were u thinking!!! laugh.gif

i shall very definatly look into getting some of rufus's stuff, howe many albums has he had?

ill pick ujp the first MCR album also, ill look into accptance in abit!

    Pixies - Surfer Rosa

    Pixies - Doolittle

They Might Be Giants - Flood.

i love "where is my mind" by the pixies, is that more of there "recent" stuff or not? it was used at the end off fight club so it confused me to how new it was/is

also i need they might be giants stuff..

that the B-side to it yeah? ill look into that, its so hard to find singles anymore

i totally need to get all the strokes albums as i love there stuff, also ive been told to get into the yeah yeah yeahs by lots of people so there a "get" also...so rooney are the same kinda stuff as AAR? interesting shall give them/him ago, ive also been told how amazing WAS are aswell..shall listen to them also..what kinda stuff is the other stuff you listed?

Gogol Bordello- Gypsy Punk Underdog World Strike
    XO- Elliott Smith
    Exhibit A- the Features
    Gimme Fiction- Spoon
    Over and Over- the 88
Lemon of Pink/Thought for Food- the Books
    Mass Romantic- the New Pornographers
    Funeral- Arcade Fire
Mink Car- They Might be Giants
Elephant- the White Stripes (since you have "get behind me satan")
Thunder, Lightning, Strike- the Go! Team
Violent Femmes- Violent Femmes (or "the very best of..." since it has Freak Magnet AND the Country Death Song)
Ruin Johnny's Bar Mitzvah-Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (so amusing that, even if you don't like the music, it's hard not to laugh along)
    Picaresque/5 Songs- the Decemberists
The Moldy Peaches- the Moldy Peaches (very very very odd, but amazing once you get past the off-key singing and lo-fi. I adore Kimya Dawson's independant CD Hidden Vagenda, but I know very few others who like her as much as I do. She is one of those people (actually, so are the Moldy Peaches) that you either love or hate)
Gorillaz-Gorillaz (almost better than Demon Days I think)
    Good Morning Beautiful- Irving
When I Was Born for the 7th Time- Cornershop
Anything by Flogging Molly (listen to "selfish man")
    Operation Ivy- Operation Ivy
    ANYTHING by the Clash
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme- Simon and Garfunkel (shut up, they're awesome)
No Direction Home- Bob Dylan (brings together such a range of classics)

ive been meaning to get the first gorrillaz album also for an age, and its only £4 atm, i love drunken lullabies by floggin molly, the rest of there stuff the same kind of high energy music?

eisley - room noises (talented, pretty sisters, a bro, and cousin).
the editors - the back room (if you like the killers).

yes i shall have to get the first stellastarr* album as some crazy dj is sending me the 2nd =p

postal service i really like from the songs ive heard from said crazy dj

Buck 65 is Unique in the good way.
Devil's eyes <--- Thats mellow buck
Wicked and Wierd<--- Thats cracked up rapping Buck

You could say Joel Plaskett's similar to the Degraws and Jack Johnson... but some of his songs are more rock as well...

Happen Now<--- typical always awesome Joel Plaskett
Work Out Fine<--- one of my favourite Joel Plaskett songs...

cheeres for the links, i shall listen to um latters

    Joey DeGraw- Midnight Audio

Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers- Bulletproof Heart
    Stephen Kellogg- Lucky Eleven
    Matt Nathanson- At the Point
    Matt Nathanson- Beneath These Fireworks
    Butch Walker- Letters

is joey anywhere near gavins level? ive heard nothing from joey in england'land

what are the other 3 bands/guys like? the same as joey/gavin/JJ?

Ah! I forgot about Ben Kweller! Try and pick up Sha Sha.

ben kweller a all piano kinda guy?

Hmm. You could fill in your collection with Green Day's "1045 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours" (I like it but it's not their best - I'm not even sure that's the right title) and Hot Hot Heat's "Knock Knock Knock" EP (I TOTALLY dig this - "Le Le Low" is constantly in my head), as well as the new Jack Johnson CD for that Curious George movie. My friend likes it, but I haven't heard it. If you like piano music, Ben Kweller's first album is pretty good. If you like goofy stuff, I looove the Bloodhound Gang though I haven't heard the newest album. If you like horns and ska-ish stuff, the Hippos' "Heads Are Gonna Roll" is awesome.

yes i plan on getting all of greendays albums down the line, yes i also need the HHH ep, however is it more of a modern one? as there first album sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom

i need all of JJ movie soundtracks!

i really liked the "new" BHG song which was out months ago, ive heard nothing else since though..

the hippos off the same class as less then jake?
  • ahh Andy you're not online I was abut to send you some Foo Fighters and Ben Folds so you could decide wether or not to get them haha. I guess you're at work.
  • im on-ish, but im off to bed now as im tired, i shall be on latter mabey if not tomos!

We agree then about The Editors. To me, they are like another The Killers, except that they really are British. Their music is good and their live show is enjoyable, but I can't rant and rave about them myself. I suggested them to you cuz I was under the impression that they were hyped up in the UK.

...you should still check out Eisley, cuz i know you have a thing for cute girls. =O
    http://www.myspace.com/eisley
  • i think thats why they are so meh to me, as they dont presseed there hype
  • I'd buy Endochine's album "Day Two." They're an Austin band, but their album is sold internationally I believe (it's on Yahoo). Judging by your tastes, I think you'd like them. Listen to either "Secret" or "New Beginning."
  • i shall try to locate them, im gonna list together what everyone has sugested so far and edit them into my first post..
  • The new albums, singles etc I just got:

Dirty Pretty things- Waterloo to anywhere (it's brilliant)
Arctic Monkeys- Who the fuck are Arctic Monkeys EP
    Snow Patrol- Eyes Open
The kooks- (forgot what the albums called but its very good)
We are scientists- With love and Squalor
    Secret Machines- Ten Silver drops
The Like- Are you thinking what I'm thinking
Elle Milano- Swearing's for art students

Some of the other bands I listed (The Redwalls, The Stands, The Blue Van . . . a few others), have an old sound to them; kind of like a Bob Dylan/Beatles (for the first two), and The Blue Van sounds like a mix between the Doors and the Who.

It all depends on if you like the music that they are influenced by, because these bands really sound from the 60s-70s.

And Rooney (a band, not a man smile.gif)toured with AAR. They're touring with Kelly Clarkson in a couple of weeks.
    -----------------------------
Whoever suggested Ben Kweller, that's good too. I listened to him today with my friend Katie and I like him a lot.

If you like pianists, too, check out Regina Spektor and the Dresden Dolls. They're a little quirky, but amazing.
  • Add Bloc Party and The Subways.
